Our Story

When Herson and Valerie Gonzalez started ministering in Woonsocket they were Youth Pastors at Rehoboth Christian Church in Milford, MA with Herson’s dad, Pastor Jesus Gonzalez. Youth were bussing in from Woonsocket to Milford every week and it was difficult to manage the explosive growth. 

On Sunday, October 5, 2003 they launched Calvary Worship Center at 251 Main Street, a little store front church that saw the glory and power of God predominantly with young people.

From the beginning, Calvary focused on reaching those who do not know God personally, using creative outreach ideas, inspirational worship experience, and a relevant gospel message.

In 2009, Calvary purchased the former Our Lady Of Victories church on 120 Prospect Street, giving the young church the stability needed to do effective ministry. 

In 2015, Pastor Herson was elevated to the office of Bishop by Bishop A. L. Foxworth of the Pentecostal Episcopal Church. 

The vision of being community partners is underscored by Bishop taking on the role of Chaplain for the Woonsocket Police Department. Also, Pastor Valerie served on the Woonsocket School Committee and is currently serving on the Woonsocket City Council. 

In 2019 Calvary relaunched as V!DA Church with a focus on helping people Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose, and Make a Difference. 

In 2023, Pastor Axel Ramos and Ministerios Llamado a Crecer (founded in 2007) joined V!DA Church as the foundation of our Spanish ministry. Vida Church Español and officially launched in April, 2024. 

Vida Church, is known for hosting yearly events like the Woonsocket Day of Prayer, The Christmas Concert & Gift Day, and Trunk R Treat, as well as regional events such as The Brotherhood Conference, Hijas Woman’s Conference, Extreme Worship and a Youth Conference. 

Some of our most important work happens at “Bread Of Life Community Meals" where we create a safe place for people to enjoy fellowship and eat delicious food together for free. 

V!DA Church has reached multitudes with the saving grace of the Gospel Of Jesus. We have deep roots in our community and we are committed to saving souls and making disciples. We invite you to join the Dream Team and become a Difference Maker.
